Ian Russell leapt on to the San Jose soccer scene when he was picked up in the 2000 MLS draft by the San Jose Earthquakes. Ian played in 148 games during his 6 years on the Earthquakes roster, two of which included MLS Championship games (in 2001 and 2003). Ian also played for the Los Angeles Galaxy in 2007 and is now the assistant coach for the San Jose Earthquakes under Frank Yallop.
Ian’s soccer career spans numerous decades. His accomplishments include
- U18 National Team
- 1st all Pac10 for 2 years with Univ. of Washington in 1994 and 1997
- Signed with Seattle Sounders at age 22 in 1998
- Signed with MLS San Jose Earthquakes in 2000
- Played with Earthquakes for 6 years
- Won two MLS Championship’s in 2001 and 2003
- 5th in career games played for Earthquakes with 148 games
- 9th all time in assists in Earthquakes history
- Attended University of Washington on soccer scholarship. Received BS in Sociology
- Trained with Stockport County, England, when it was in the 1st Division
- Played for Lech Poznan, 1st Division Poland
- Coaches two boys team. One a Div. 1 U16 Boys team that he has been with for five years. A U15 boys team which hejoined this year.
